Light of Exile

The sequel to By the Waters of Babylon

Declare among the nations and proclaim:
Babylon is captured, for a nation from the north has attacked her.
It will make her land a desolation. No one will dwell in it, both man and beast will wander away.

Jeremiah 50: 2 – 3

Light of Exile is now available!

Just two generations after it destroyed the Israelite kingdom of Judah, the mighty Babylonian Empire is about to be conquered in its turn. Two boys are swept into the turmoil when one of them, the Babylonian Gimillu, burns the barley field of his Judean schoolboy foe Zakaryah. The cascading disasters that ensue plunge both boys into a terrifying race for survival. They’re accompanied by a mysterious dark-skinned girl named Danna, and by Zakaryah’s strange little sister Hannah. The boys will need to set aside their hatred for the four of them to survive their desperate flight.

And if six-year-old Hannah has her way, that flight will lead them to a desolate backwater of the empire, to a ruined city called Jerusalem.

A Story of the Time of King David

Stephen joins an archaeological dig in Israel to escape a personal tragedy, leaving behind his daughter and two granddaughters.

Late one night he trudges up to the looming mound for respite from the heat. As the moon’s cold light spills down onto the tumbled stones, the haunted shadows loosen his grip on the present, thrusting him into the heart of the disaster that left the ancient city in ruins.

Will his vision of that long-ago catastrophe give him the courage to return home and confront his own tragedy?
